- The Department of Education has announced its draft requirements for $3.5 billion in Title I School Improvement grants. See the department's overview, with links to a fact sheet and eamples of successful efforts, here.
- Meanwhile, the National Education Association has formally announced its opposition to key components of the Race to the Top program.
- Phi Delta Kappa International and Gallup released their annual poll on the public's attitudes toward public schools. eSchool News has a lengthy recap. See NSDC's response to poll results here.
- The American Association of School Administrators released its own survey last week, showing how states and districts are using their stimulus money. The Christian Science Monitor has more.
- Finally, U.S. Congressman George Miller (D-CA) gave a lengthy interview with Edutopia that touched on a number of issues related to No Child Left Behind. In the interview, Miller stated that Where there's cooperative learning, where students are learning from their peers, where teachers are sharing their teaching experiences, where they have time to plan programs, to align the programs to the proficiency of the children, there are a lot of successes out there that we have to focus on.
